Programs – 2023

Competitive Teams

Updated December 6, 2022

The Fernie Volleyball Club participates as part of Volleyball Alberta’s Indoor Club program.

The goal is to have teams participate in all bigger sanctioned events called “Premiers” as well as Provincial Championships and in many cases even Volleyball Canada ‘Nationals’ and other events. (Optional)

The specific makeup of teams across divisions (Girls vs Boys, 12U to 18U) will be determined by the FVC and coaches based on the number of athletes expressing interest to tryout. The club may not have teams in all divisions depending on the breakdown of athletes.

This general information can serve as a guide to what families/athletes can expect in terms of time commitments for participation in an FVC club team in the 2023 season.

We currently have coaches lined up to support the following teams for the 2023 season:

  • 13U Girls Peak
  • 13U Girls Griz
  • 14U Girls
  • 15U Girls
  • 16U Girls
  • 17U Girls
  • 15/16U Boys

If interest is high enough during tryouts and we can find coaches and enough facilities/gym access we may consider running additional teams.

General Information – Competitive Teams

    • Season runs from early January through end of April (into May for teams who choose to participate in Nationals). Registration (and tryouts if numbers deem it) happen in early December.
    • 13U to 15U Teams typically practice twice per week for 90 to 120 minutes.  16U+ teams may practice 3 times per week.  Most practices occur at the Fernie Community Centre, Max Turyk Community Centre and when possible Fernie Secondary.
    • 13U ‘Travel’ team(s) participate in 2 ‘Premier’ tournaments as well as Provincials.  All tournament fees for these events are covered as part of the overall fee. Ancillary costs related to athletes or families travelling to the events are not covered. (Travel, lodging and food)
    • 14U, 15U, 16U, 17U & 18U teams participate in 3 ‘Premier’ tournaments as well as provincials. Same information as above about tournament fees covered but not ancillary fees related to travel.
    • The Premier and Provincials events are typically in Calgary or Edmonton (some could be in Red Deer for 2023).
    • Volleyball Canada Nationals are optional per team (starting at 14U level) and participation is decided by the individual team based on location, expenses, etc. In 2022, the FVC sent 4 teams to Nationals.
